The Power of Ruqya Water

The Power of Ruqya Water

“Have those who have disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and it is We Who separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?” – Surah al Anbiya

Ruqya water is a method carried out in which one recites the verses of the Qur’an and then spittle’s dryly over the water. According to Shar’i evidence, the most prominent verses that are prescribed are Surah al Fatiha, al-Miwadhatayn and Ayatul Kursey. Along with the verses from Qur’an, the Asma wa Sifaat (names and attributes of Allah) can also be mentioned as well as the words uttered by Muhammad ﷺ. This is exemplified by the hadith:

Narrated by ‘Uthmaan ibn Abi’l-Aas: He complained to the Messenger of Allah  about pain that he had felt in his body from the time he had become Muslim. The Messenger of Allah  said to him, “Put your hand on the part of your body where you feel pain and say ‘Bismillaah (in the name of Allah) three times, then say seven times, ‘A’oodhu bi ‘izzat-illaah wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajid wa uhaadhir (I seek refuge in the glory and power of Allah from the evil of what I feel and worry about).” Uthmaan ibn Abi’l-Aas said, I did that, and Allah took away what I had been suffering, and I kept on enjoining my family and others to do that.” – Sahih in Tirmidhi and Muslim.

The water that is used can be ZamZam water as it is the purest of all waters, or if ZamZam is not available, then any form of mineral water can also be utilized.

Ruqya must be performed in adherence to the Qur’an and Sunnah and it is an essential principle that the one who is conducting Ruqya comprehends that the power of healing from all diseases and illnesses belongs to Allah and Allah alone. The evidence for the use of Ruqya water derives from the time Muhammad ﷺ fell ill after being stung by a poisonous scorpion:

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Masoud RA: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was praying and when he was in sujood (prostration), a scorpion had stung him on the finger. Once the Prophet ﷺ completed his prayer, he said, “May Allah put His curse on the scorpion as it neither leaves the Prophets, nor others!” He then asked for a pot filled with water to which he added some salt. The Prophet ﷺ dipped his finger that was stung in the water and he recited Surah al Ikhlaas and al Muwahidhatayn then blew on his finger until the pain left his body. – Sahih in Tirmidhi

Water is distinct in regards to the complete spectrum of creation. Every living matter, whether it be a complex structure or the simplest of all, is created with water being its key component. In the Qur’an, Allah The Exalted made mention of water and its significance several times in regards to how humans were made from water, the role of water in agriculture as well as the sustenance factor as a whole.

When reading the verses from the Qur’an concerning the role of water in the existence of mankind today, they appear to express ideas that are now facts of science. One example of this is the concept of the water cycle, where it has been observed that rainfall penetrates the soil, enriches it with minerals for the purpose of agricultural growth, and then re-evaporates for the formation of clouds. This was only concluded in the 17th century, whereby Allah had already mentioned over 1400 years prior: “And (what means): “We sent down water from the sky in measure and lodged it  in the ground. And We certainly are able to withdraw it. Therewith for you We gave rise to gardens of palm-trees and vineyards where for you are abundant fruits and of them you eat.” – Surah al Mu’minoon.” SubhanAllah, this is just one aspect of the infinite knowledge that belongs to Allah the Exalted!

A non-Muslim researcher from Japan named Masaru Emoto, who was also a professor at the University of Alternative Medicines had carried out research on water over the course of 15 years. Dr.Emoto became infamous for his claims that human consciousness, ‘emotional energies’ and vibration had an effect on the molecular structure of water. He also aimed to prove that crystals from snowfall could not generate unique snowflakes and so set up an experiment whereby water was subjected to sudden freezing in order for it to assume a geometric shape. He could not reach his claim as every crystal formed were unique in structure. Whilst doing so, a colleague from Saudi introduced him to ZamZam water. He was not able to crystalize the ZamZam water until it had been diluted by a ratio of 1ml of ZamZam with 1000ml of distilled water. The next step was when his Muslim colleague offered to play the recitation of Qur’an during the crystalisation of ZamZam and it was a shock to Dr.Emoto and his colleagues when two perfectly identical crystals in shape and molecular structure were formed layered over one another. The Saudi colleague proposed that the formation of the two crystals could be due to the fact that ZamZam is composed of two words – Zam and Zam, and Allah knows best.

“Have you observed the water which you drink?” – Surah al Waqi’ah

Taking into consideration the affect water that has the Qur’an recited over it could have such a vast
